Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in style with the Green Dublin Cocktail—a festive, fun, and vibrant green drink (of course!). Mix up good Irish whiskey (this is not the day for vodka, gin, or tequila), sweet apple juice, and crisp green sour apple schnapps for the ultimate St. Patrick’s Day cocktail. It’s like a little liquid Leprechaun. Cheers!

It’s all for the fun of the Irish holiday and your St. Patrick’s Day party! This cocktail has been a favorite drink here since 2015 that  stands up with all the classic cocktails for St. Patrick’s. I’m talking Shamrock shake, an Irish Mule, Irish maid, a Grasshopper cocktail, or even a pint of Guinness or green beer—this Irish whiskey cocktail came about by accident. But the flavors (and of course, the color) really work.

Green Dublin Cocktail Ingredients

This delicious green Dublin apple cocktail is as Irish as it gets, and you can’t help but notice its vibrant green color from the sour apple schnapps (not green food coloring). Apple schnapps is sour on it’s own, but the addition of apple juice balances out the sour and sweet.) I recently switched the recipe from white cranberry juice to apple juice. It just made more sense flavor-wise and white cranberry is not so easy to find.

With a good ol’ Irish kick from Jameson Irish Whiskey, just shake it all up in a cocktail shaker, serve, and garnish with thin apple slices and fresh mint leaves. Cheers!

St Patrick’s Day Food

This day isn’t just about great green cocktails—food is just as important! In addition to Irish Stew and Colcannon, why not try something unique, like my Luck of the Irish Chili? (pictured below). It comes with homemade shamrock tortilla chips.

With boozy food, you can also enjoy boozy drinks. I’ve got a fun and easy Irish Coffee Milkshake Shots made with Irish cream liqueur that makes a tasty dessert (pictured below).

Why You’ll Love This Cocktail

This St. Patrick’s Day cocktail isn’t just eye-catching—it packs perfectly balanced flavors. Irish whiskey adds warmth and depth, while the apple juice provides a light, slight sweetness. Green apple schnapps delivers a sweet and tart kick along with its signature hue. It’s easy to make, fun to serve, and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! You can also swap in melon liqueur for a similar green color and a slightly different flavor.

Green Liqueur Options

If you’re feeling like a mixologist, play with the flavors and ingredients and try some of these other options:

  • Midori – A bright green melon liqueur, super sweet and great for tropical drinks.
  • Crème de Menthe – Minty and fresh, perfect for Grasshoppers or adding a minty kick to cocktails.
  • Green Chartreuse – Herbal and complex, made by monks with a secret recipe of 130 plants. Fancy!

St Patricks Day in America

St. Patrick’s Day is HUGE in the United States—probably even bigger than in Ireland in some ways. Thanks to a large Irish-American population, cities like Chicago, Boston, and New York go all out with green food, green drinks, parades, pub crawls, and even dyeing rivers green (looking at you, Chicago). Even people with zero Irish ancestry throw on green, drink Guinness, and claim to be “a little Irish for the day.”

Fun Fact – It’s St. Paddy’s Day, not St. Patty’s Day!

“Paddy” comes from Pádraig, the Irish name for Patrick, while “Patty” is usually short for Patricia. So unless you’re celebrating St. Patricia’s Day  stick with St. Paddy’s Day!
