I know you’re out there, beauty fanatics!
And I come to you with a challenge!
It’s finally time for me to graduate to a tinted moisturizer this summer. After a full year of treatment with Accutane, Minocin and a bajillion special face creams, my skin is finally getting clear. I’m going barefaced on weekends and at home, but I’m not brave enough to do it all the time at work.
I have rosacea, which means I have some redness in my skin, and it flares up when I get hot, excited, have a drink, blah blah blah so I still want to keep a little bit of coverage to even my tone out.
I am looking for a tinted moisturizer or other product that will address most or all of my needs. But does it exist? I don’t know! I’ve never bought something like this before so I don’t know where to start.
Can you make me some product recommendations?
Needs:
- lightweight, but with ok blending/coverage/something to even out the skin tone
- MUST have an SPF
- Not greasy or difficult to absorb (my skin is still a little oily)
- Preferably with mattifying ingredients so I don’t get greasy half way through the day
- Not overly expensive. I don’t know what the average price range is, but I don’t want anything too cheap (like Covergirl) but nothing over $20 if possible
- Won’t rub off or run easily. I’m a sweaty Betty.
- Needs to be a good colour for me – I am around an NC20 in MAC shades
I would say that SPF, staying power and price are my top 3 “must-have’s”. I want to feel as though I am wearing nothing. My mineral makeup is great, but it’s still a little heavier than I would like.
So can you tell me about your favourite product, or what you would recommend for me? Even if you’re not a beauty blogger, what is the product you just rave about to your friends?
I want to know!

I love love love Estee Lauder tinted moisturizer spf 15. It's divine. I have a 14 month old baby who doesn't always sleep and I still look like I've had my 12 hours when I wear it. It's great in terms of enhancing the colour your skin already is. Only one issue. Not cheap. It's 60.00…which seems like a lot but it lasts a real long time. Worth the splurge! I promise.
I have always used (since high school) Cover Girl's Aquasmooth Compact Foundation (the Cover Girl website says it's recommended for dry skin, but I can tell you that my skin is oily, but this works for me. It doesn't smudge, it doesn't make me look greasy, it just works nicely). It starts out as a solid in the compact, and you use a sponge to put it on. It goes on very smoothly and creamy, but doesn't feel "wet" on your skin. Since I have zit-prone skin, I buy new sponges and change them frequently.
Would love to hear recommendations! I have extremely sensitive skin that tends to be oily but also gets heinous dry, eczema like spots. And I'm pretty sure I have rosacea; have done for years.

I used to use one that was made by Arbonne. I think it was their FYI line. It had an SPF of 15 and light/medium coverage and felt really lightweight especially in summer.
These days I'm using Clinique Almost Powder makeup which also has an SPF 15 and is AWESOME…best thing I've used on my face and it feels like nothing! It's a little pricier ($30ish) so I try to buy it at free-gift-with-purchase time 🙂
Hey Ginger! I just discovered your blog and am having great fun reading through old posts. You and me sound much alike, right down to the skin type. I've tried tons of expensive tinted moisturizers through department stores and Sephora, but my favourite is a $10.00 steal from mark. (by Avon). It's called "Get a Tint". It contains an SPF 15, controls oil all day, comes in a nice range of tones, and provides just enough coverage – it provides a nice professional finish for a work day, but isn't too heavy to wear on the weekends. If you don't have an Avon rep, you can get it through the Avon/mark. website at http://www.avon.ca. Good luck in your search, and if you find any good tinted moisturizers, I'd love to read about them in a future post!
