I just keep changing my mind

So, that extra $200 I was wondering what to do with?

I sort of keep waffling on it. First I said I’d use it to cover Christmas presents, but then I was also thinking about getting a new winter coat.

Now I’ve gone and changed my mind again!

I have a feeling that no matter what I peg it for, it will just be picked away at until it disappears into the ether.

So I actually went out and bought a new winter coat. It’s  not bad, it meets all my requirements, BUT I can’t shake this little niggly feeling of guilt, of being unsettled with something about it. I bought the coat but haven’t worn it yet… and I think I might return it.

What prompted this change of heart was that I found out that the new Ikea desk I asked of my parents for Christmas will not be coming my way. My mom flat out told me I will not be getting it. So I went back and reevaluated how I feel about things.

Frankly, I want the desk more than the coat. It would be functional and practical, but also entertain me (I love to organize & set up new stuff!) and give me that “new stuff!” thrill that my coat purchase just wasn’t giving me. Besides, my old winter coat is still serviceable. A little on the ratty side but not awful yet.

So I think that’s what I’m going to do with my extra money. Assuming I haven’t piddled it away in takeout & movie tickets already!

There’s just so many things that you could buy with extra money—and I think that is part of the problem. It just makes me feel bad. I got a little money; just enough to feel like I could upgrade something, but  not enough to actually do all the things I want to do with it. Not that I am ungrateful for the extra cash, but it seems to be complicating my life more than necessary! Sheesh!

  1. I think the desk is a better choice too. More functional, you'll use it daily, and it will feel like a weightier purchase than a coat

Especially since you said your old winter coat is still serviceable, right? 🙂

I made the same decision. I'm keeping my short winter coat, and just dealing with it for a winter or two more, as my long-term plan is to move to Dallas where snow will be just a memory of the past.

  2. Well… Ginger. I have a solution to your problem. You can give the $200 to MEEEE!!! 😀
just kidding… well, not really if you're willing. 😉

Anyways, I can totally relate to a new winter jacket. That's what I might get too in January after the holidays when clothes usually go on sale. I think you should choose to spend it on something that would REALLY make you happy and something that you normally wouldn't buy/splurge for yourself if you didn't have this extra cash.

  3. hehehehe…I totally agree with AP!!!

It's 'found' money and you should do something that will make you really happy and the key thing being not to regret what you do decide..just enjoy the little splurge!

Myself, I'd buy the Fluevogs I posted on my site earlier and not feel one twinge of guilt… 🙂

  4. *Sigh* Canadians have the coolest money. The pictures and colors are so cool! And the Queen is on it! I have one of those $20 bills hanging up on my fridge door from my trip to Canada two years ago. 🙂

The desk seems like the best choice to me.

    • I agree! Our money IS pretty cool! I like that it's easy to identify by the pretty colours… I only wish we still had a $2 bill rather than that dang toonie! You should hang onto that twenty… our money is almost at par again and you can either trade it in or plan a trip to visit us again!

So far so good on the desk front… I returned the jacket so the money is just hanging out right now. Maybe I'll take my brother's truck over the holidays and go pick something up.
