I am SO mean

I got another ridiculous email from someone trying to take advantage of bloggers:

Hi Gingercorsair.blogspot.com,

My name is Matt Taylor and I am the SEO Manager here at Online Marketing Group. I’ve just been visiting your website as I am on the search for banking/finance related websites that would be interested in linking to an Australian Credit Cards website – www.CreditCards.com.au.

I work for Online Marketing Group, if you are unfamiliar with our business – we are the largest publisher of websites that contain the .com.au extension in Australia.

We can offer you several variations of a return link, we can add a link to your website on the homepage one of our many banking/finance related websites. Alternatively, we can provide you with a listing in our website directory – www.directorysearch.com.au and provide you with 4 additional links to any subpages you want to rank better in search engines.

I would love to discuss this further with you if you have the time to talk about any concerns or suggestions you may have.

Looking forward to your response,
Matt

My somewhat mean response:

You have got to be joking me. You did a terrible job at this solicitation, how can you live with yourself?

1) I have a name. If you actually visited the site you would know that
2) The site you quoted is the old one–my blog has moved to a new location. Again, you would know this if you visited
3) I run a personal finance blog. Why would I want to encourage my readers to sign up for credit cards, when getting OUT of debt is their main goal?
4) I run a CANADIAN site. An Australian site has nothing to do with me, my readers, or my content!
5) I see this for what it is. You’re trying to get links for your crappy scam site by trying to pull in gullible bloggers. You know that our sites are better than yours and this effort is not a link exchange that would benefit us, but only one that would benefit you. Ridiculous.

Again, how can you sleep at night?

I can’t believe you send these emails out, they are truly ridiculous. I work in the industry, buddy and many of my friends are REAL SEO specialists. This is NOT how things are done and you know it. You ought to be ashamed of the underhanded way you try to shill your “products”.

Good riddance.

I…just… the mind boggles at these people. As someone in the advertising business I would never be this careless when trying to forge a partnership. Watch out for these types of yahoos!

  1. uhh. I hate to say this… But that was likely a troll email. and now they know your email is live and active. they will likely try to sell your email link around to other people and you'll end up getting more spam. ^___^;;

  2. don't be! I mean, I might not be right. It could really be someone just trying to solicit and stuff… and doing a bad job. it's hard to tell nowadays with all the wackos out there. but if it was a solicitor, you did a great job of telling him/them off. 😀
