Girls Night In & The Close Call

I just got paid and I am thrilled. This is a magical 3-pay cheque month for me and I couldn’t be happier! For one, I now have a little bit of cash that I can use for my girls weekend (one of my bffs is coming to stay the weekend with me! Yay!) and for another… I almost ran out of money!

Sheesh, if I hadn’t been paid when I was, I would have had all of $13 left in my bank account due to poor money management on my part! I had a cheque come out for something I bought at Spirits Fest, I withdrew money, and then several automatic transactions that I forgot about went through.

I did the math, and if I had not been paid when I was, I may have overdrafted without even knowing it! Eep! That’s a lesson learned for me… I need to remember to take my own advice sometimes!

Anyway, I’m having the aforementioned girls weekend, starting tonight 🙂 We don’t have much cash, so I think we’ll be staying in more than going out. This is sort of a seague into a cause that was recently brought to my attention:

The Girls Night In for the Canadian Cancer Society.

“The concept is simple. Girls Night In raises money by asking women to host any kind of get-together with their girlfriends and ask their guests to donate the amount they would have spent for a night out on dinner, movie tickets or taxis to the Canadian Cancer Society. The host gets to decide how, when and where to hold their Girls Night In event.

In 2009, an estimated 12,050 women in Ontario are expected to be diagnosed with breast, uterine, ovarian and cervical cancers. The Girls Night In fundraising initiative aims to reduce this number by funding leading-edge research and creating awareness about cancers that affect women.”

That is definitely a cause I can get on board with, and have fun doing it! Obvs I think this is a totally rad idea, and am contemplating holding a little shindig myself. The only barriers I can think of are that none of my friends are employed right now. We’re not going out anyway because we have no cash, so I don’t know how well giving your fun money to charity will go over. I guess it can’t hurt to ask though, right?

But I definitely think this is worth checking out! I think it’s important to support causes like these, especially when we’re finally starting to make headway in terms of cancer prevention (like the Gardasil vaccine, which I will be posting about soon!).

I would love to hear if anyone else is thinking of hosting one of these parties, and if it goes over well!
