1st Prize: Amazon Gift Certificate

This coming weekend is July the 4th, Independence Day for the United States. Most Canadians don’t celebrate this holiday, but I am not most Canadians.

I’m actually half ‘n half; I have Canadian citizenship by birthright, and American citizenship by bloodright. Growing up it was a mix of the two cultures. My dad’s side is really Canadian, whereas my mom’s side is really American. I’ve got some great traditions and also some weird quirks from both sides.

I alternate between saying “zed” and “zee” all the time, and somehow the terms “y’all” and “eh?” work themselves into my speech quite often! I feel at home in both countries and have family in both countries.

Today, (Canada Day) I’ll be celebrating at a BBQ with a good friend. This weekend I’ll be celebrating Independence day with all my American-blooded family with another good old BBQ and family games.

In honour of these occasions, I wanted to be able to offer a prize opportunity to both my Canadian and American readers. (Yes my American friends, I know you get shafted a lot in terms of prizes on here, sorry! Hope this makes it up to ya!)

To that end, I’ve chosen an Amazon gift certificate to give-away; I love love LOVE reading and am on Amazon all the time, so it seemed like a good idea to share something with you that I love.
This is actually the only prize that I am paying for out of pocket, I hope whoever wins it enjoys reading as much as I do!

Amazon Gift Certificate Give-Away
OPEN TO: Canadian and US Residents

The winner of this prize will receive either a $10 USD or $15 CAD online gift certificate to Amazon.com or .ca.

There are a maximum of four (4) entries you can receive. For each of the below methods, please leave a separate comment with proof and your email (with spaces so the spiders can’t read it is fine). I will be selecting the winner using random.org.

  • 1 Entry: Make a post on your blog about the relaunch of GWS, and/or the celebration prizes I am giving away all month. Leave a URL to your post in your comment.
  • 1 Entry: Subscribe to my RSS feed & leave a comment saying you did so (please be honest!)
  • 1 Entry: Tweet about my blog relaunch and/or celebration prizes, please list the URL of the Tweet in the comments, and/or @gingercorsair me in it.
  • 1 Entry: Leave a comment telling me whether you’re Canadian or American and what you love about your country!

Winners will be announced on Wednesday, July 28th.

GOOD LUCK! ๐Ÿ˜€

    2. I already am all over your RSS Feed. Hell, we share items w/ each other ๐Ÿ˜›

    3. I am Canadian, and I'd love to be American.. but I do appreciate that Canadians have the best of life without the awful stereotype that follows Americans around when they travel!

Or all the jibes the Americans take about weight, overspending, etc etc. Canadians are totally immune to those piggish comments because we're off the global radar ๐Ÿ˜‰

You know what I mean ๐Ÿ™‚

    4. Will post about your comeback right now!

  2. I am Canadian and I love it. I think it's neat when we travel how excited people in other countries get when they find out we're Canadian.psychsarah at hotmail . com

  3. Not sure if this giveaway is closed already, but I just added your blog to my RSS feed. I actually just discovered your blog, so looking fwd to some good reading. Thanks for the giveaway!
I am American btw, and my favorite thing about being an American is that I can travel to a lot of places without a visa!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I'm an American living in Canada since I was 5 so I usually say I'm brainwashed Canadian without the papers. Lots of things I like about living here but still hate winter seeing as how I was born in California! I RSS'd you just before you went on self imposed exile.

  5. I just discovered your blog and subscribed!

Oh and I'm a Canadian, living in the US for the last two years! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. **Canadian here! (And part Brit)..I think I love our slang best. Deek, toque, pop (rather than soda, etc)

**I've blogged about you today over at: http://melaniemh.blogspot.com

    **Tweeted (under MelanieMH)

**and signed up for your RSS feed on Bloglines ๐Ÿ™‚

    Welcome back!!

  7. My turn,

    1. Just made a post http://inbetweenragsandriches.blogspot.com/2009/07/ginger-is-back.html

    2. I already subscribe using my personal email but will also do so w/ my blogging email.

    3. I think I am the only person in the world who doesn't have twitter so no tweets from me.

    4. I am Canadian & I really do love its diversity. My parents immigrated here when I was in elementary school and I really love being able to walk down the streets not feeling like an outsider.

  8. I'm American, but I did spend 3 years in Canada and I call myself an Honourary Canadian. I really loved it there! Better than here, as things there seem to be at a more reasonable cost of living. As for the good thing about being an American, well, I do have a lot of freedoms that other countries do not allow their citizens.

  9. hi, i just subscribed to rss feeds from this site.

i was born in canada but lived in Texas for 10 years from age 2-12. i am back living in Canada now.

  10. I am Canadian through and through! I moved out of my hometown for university, and have stuck around in Toronto since! I haven't seen much of our country, but I do love that we have such a variety of things to do and see.

  11. I'm a Missouri girl that's just moved to Canada in the last year (married a Canuck, holla!) and I love it here. Living in STL was pretty toxic; everyone in Ontario is so NICE! I also love ketchup chips, Tim Horton's, and real sugar in my soda. I totally say "eh", but "ya'll" and "zee" are immovable figures in my vocabulary. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Just did a post on my blog about the relaunch. I know it's a bit late for people to enter the draws, but I'm hoping the article links will bring them to you anyway!

  13. I actually did subscribe to your feed when you came back. ๐Ÿ™‚ But just for kicks – I love the FREEDOM in my country! And the hot American boys. ๐Ÿ™‚ (not the taxes, er, GRRR)

  14. I am about to feel super annoying, b/c I'll be leaving separate comments as you recommended, haha…but I just subscribed via Google Reader! I found you through Jaka and your blog looks like fun, I'm definitely planning on sticking around!

oh and my email is declinedesigns (at) gmail (dot) com.

    thank you dear!

  15. I'm an American and one of things I love is that most stores have a generous return policy. A strange thing to love, but true!
