Financial Update

Updated all my bars and stuff again. Things are looking better, but just barely. Everything went up a couple of points, but it really only equates to a few hundred extra.

What a bummer.

I can tell that the banks changed their interest rates without having to look them up. I can tell because the interest payment this month was less than last month even though I had more money in the account. Asshats. It’s great for people with debt, but what about those of us who are trying to get ahead??

Hopefully I’ll get a decent tax return this year (hoping for around $1000) so I think I’ll put half of it to the EF and half to the entertainment fund. My friend C and I are planning a trip to Las Vegas at the end of April, so I’ll need the money!

How cheap do you think we could do Vegas for? I hear they’re hurtin’ something fierce down there, so I’m banking on some good deals. Whaddaya think?

  1. I just did the math on my interest for my accounts and went into a tank over it yesterday. It sure is hard to get ahead these days, isn’t it? Looks like your making progress though. I just filed my taxes yesterday (and they were accepted today) and I’m getting 1600 back. So best of luck to you!

  2. Asshats… love it!

I did Vegas almost two years ago so I might be a bit out of touch, but it was suuuper cheap. Find an air and hotel deal because they are crazy cheap. From the west coast I got a flight and three nights at the Flamingo (nothin’ super fancy, but still nice and right in the MIDDLE of the strip) for $299! I think it might be a bit more from the east side of (or central) Canada. Food is a bit pricey but you can do two meals a day and light snack so its ok. I LOVE to eat so I’d budget $70 a day for food if i was going again.

THEN there’s the shopping (I’m not much of a gambler). I’d avoid the outlet malls, I didn’t think they were that great, but the Fashion Mall is suuuuper good. Of course, you’re from TO so maybe shopping isn’t going to be that great for you because youv’e got it all there. AND go see “O” the Cirque de Soleil show!!! Its the best one and its worth the money. My tickets were bought for me so I don’t know what they were but I know they weren’t cheap. I’d say it really depends on what you want to do too. I’d probably budget $1000 if I was going again but definitely try not to spend more than $800 for three days. But like I said, I went when our dollar was up a few years ago, so I might be way off. Have fun!

  3. The shopping is going to be fabulous, as per my friend who is from Toronto and went and purchased a ton of clothing.

I think everywhere is a steal right now 🙂 I can’t wait for my trip to NY in April…!

  4. So a coworker of mine just went to vegas for $500 for flight & hotel. He stayed @ the paris which is a pretty good location on the strip.

I think he booked using vegas.com

  5. I’ve never been to Vegas before, so I can’t give you tips about that. But I read an article yesterday saying the prices of plane tickets will go way down soon since no one is traveling right now. So maybe if you wait till very close to your trip to book your plane ticket, you can save some dough.

Oh yeah, and don’t remind me about the lower interest rates. I’m still pissed about it.

  6. My BBF just went to Vegas. I think she paid $100 airfare for a round trip from Washington. There are mega deals to be had right now. I hear Mexico is also a steal right now.
