I didn’t post this weekend for a very good reason. I came down with a seriously nasty case of the stomach flu.
I haven’t had the flu in about 5-6 years, so when it hit me, it hit me hard. It also couldn’t have come at a worse time.
This weekend my BFF T came for a visit. We did our witchy stuff on Friday, then on Saturday we were to go to my hometown for a wonderful and relaxing day at the spa.
I woke up feeling pretty crappy but figured it was due to excitement, sometimes my tummy reacts like that. The spa should help me calm down and relax.
Needless to say, that was not the case. I got to the spa and we started our hot stone massages, and I had to get up twice to go to the bathroom. Other than that it was divine. After the second bathroom break, my friend J who owns the spa and was doing my treatment suggested I not try it again, apparently I was looking pretty awful by that point. They tucked me into a spa bed and brought me tea while I waited for T to finish her treatment. By this point I had started crying for no reason, I just felt embarrassed and disappointed by the whole thing. I was a hot mess.
At least T had a relatively nice time, and she was a total trooper, skipping out on her facial to take me home to my parents. As soon as I got home things got worse, but at least my mommy was there to take care of me. Even being an adult now, when something that bad hits you, you really just need some TLC. Poor mom was freaking out because I was in such pain and misery, but there really wasn’t anything to do. She’s a nurse and knows what to do, and when she doesn’t then we head to the doctor.
At first we thought it was something to do with my gallbladder since I had eaten greasy pizza the night before. But then I started vomiting and was unable to even hold down a tiny sip of water so we knew it was a bad strain of the flu.
After a while I had to tell T (in between bouts) that I was going to have to stay with my parents that night. She was hanging out and talking with my mom and watching TV the whole time I was sick, she was really cool about everything. She opted to go catch up with her husband and his friend back in TO for the weekend, so that made me feel better–at least she would be able to have a nice time with them and wasn’t chained to a sickie.
I gave her the spare keys to my apartment (we hadn’t brought any of our stuff with us, I had to borrow mom’s jammies!) and she went off.
The rest of the night went as you can imagine… being sick and trying to recover. I was pretty exhausted by my super-busy week before, and now this illness wreaking havoc inside me. But by late night I was able to hold down some water and a little banana and finally start the healing process.
On Sunday I felt oodles better, but still a little weak and delicate. I’m back home in TO now but decided to take the day off work to recover some more. I’ve got the Smashing Pumpkins concert tonight and I don’t want to be sick for that!
