The chili paste does play a major part in the flavor of the dressing, and that’s probably why it didn’t taste as good when you left it out. I’m glad you were able to make it work with the hoisin sauce. Thank you for the feedback.

Basically good, but the sauce didn’t quite do what I expected. I should add that I was cooking for a family with kids, and the chili paste was a no-go. Benefitted greatly from the addition of some hoisin sauce. Then it was brilliant.
